It is more difficult to diagnose infiltrating lobular cancer (ILC) preoperatively than other moicroscopic breast cancer forms. Physical examination May be deceptive on account of the diffuse infiltrating growth of ILC which frequently fails to lead to the development of a well defined tumour. Mammographic and ultrasonographic images are variegated and show little specificity and the evaluation of the size and scope of the neoplastic process within the breast performed by means of the said techniques proves inaccurate. Of the methods in question, the most efficient is nu clear magnetic resonance both for the purpose of early diagnostics and screening tests. Fine needle aspiration biopsy, although unquestionably useful, encounters serious constraints and the percentage of falsely negative results ranges from 15% to 60%. <
